This long lake, surrounded by freely accessible nature reserves, first came into being when the Delta dams were built. It is over 22 kilometres long and offers many free places to stay on the man-made islands that dot the lake. Make sure you don't miss a visit to the enchanting town of Veere either. You will also find marinas in Wolphaartsdijk, Arnemuiden, Kamperland and Kortgene. A canal will take you to Middelburg and Vlissingen. Again, you will be able to moor in the town centres and enjoy the hustle and bustle of these lovely towns from the comfort of your pavement café seat.
The Oosterschelde is an expansive tidal waterway and nature reserve. It is perfect for the more seasoned watersports lovers, with maximum tidal flows of about 2 knots (3.8 kilometres per hour). Stay at the Roompot Marina to the west where you will also find the imposing flood barriers. Neeltje Jans is a working island hosting a permanent exhibition on the tremendous power of water during tidal movements.
Zierikzee with its historic inner harbour and museums offers a sheltered mooring place to spend the night. Colijnsplaat lies across from Zierikzee, a rural and pastoral village that promises a pleasurable stay. You can also moor your yacht in Goes, in the heart of the town's historic centre where you will be surrounded by its lively atmosphere. Also Kats and Wemeldinhe have wonderful Marina's with good facilities.
In the southeastern part of the Oosterschelde a tangle of sticks marks the location of the many sites for the cultivation and storage for mussels and oysters. These shellfish are brought ashore in Yerseke to be enjoyed in the local speciality restaurants. For some great shopping, visit Bergen op Zoom, or enjoy a drink at one of the many pavement cafes in the city centre. Also Tholen is a nice little old town worth visiting. In the direction to Bruinisse you wil find Sint Annaland on portside. In the harbour you wil find a lovely restaurant with a wonderful view over the Oosterschelde.
GREVELINGENMEER - Zeeland
It is the biggest saltwater lake in Europe with a length of 25 kilometres and is well suited to the inexperienced sailor and especially families with kids. There are no tides and the salt water is crystal clear. There are many romantic islands for mooring your charter boat. The Slikken van Flakkee on the north side of the lake is a unique natural environment with thousands of birds. On the islands, you will also find groups of friendly fjord horses, shetland ponies and cows. You should visit this nature reserve! At the Brouwersdam you will find Holland's biggest and most beautiful beaches - ideal for a day of sunbathing. The small villages of Brouwershaven, Bruinisse and Herkingen are also well worth a visit. Marina Port Zélande is next to Center Parcs Port Zélande with its many activities, including a tropical swimming pool, adventure factory and mini golf, along with several restaurants.
KRAMMER / VOLKERAK
This waterway forms the natural link between the provinces of South Holland, Zeeland and North Brabant, surrounded by nature reserves and mussel farms. Moor your boat in Oude Tonge, Ooltgensplaat or Dintelmond.
MARK and DINTEL-Brabant (only motoryachts)
Between Drimmelen and Geertruidenberg you cruise towards Breda, a historical town with canals and an inviting cent. From here, you can sail to Terheijden, Etten Leur or Oudenbosch. From Dinteloord you can sail back to the Volkerak.
HARINGVLIET / HOLLANDSCH DIEP / BIESBOSCH - Zuid Holland / Brabant
This sweet Natura 2000 landscapes stretches from the North Sea to the Biesbosch. Especially the Haringvliet is a good accessible water area for your sailing yacht or motor yacht with hardly any freight traffic. A great atmosphere you will find in Hellevoetsluis, Stad aan 't haringvliet and Middelharnis. The fish auction in Stellendam is on Friday morning. Here you will find large quantities of fresh North Sea fish brought by fishing boats.The Hollands Diep is a busy connection between the Rotterdam and Antwerp harbours. Please check your back regularly and keep straight especially on the starboard line. Willemstad is a cosy and historic town. Dordrecht, a city with more than 800 monuments, is a must for culture lovers. After the hustle and bustle of the Hollands Diep you find a good relax in nature park "the Brabant Biesbosch". Here you will sail with your motor yacht into creeks, you catch the biggest fish and it is a bliss to spend the night on anchor at night.
THE GREEN HART OF HOLLAND / AMSTERDAM
You can visit the green heart of the Netherlands.It is on;y a two day's sailing trip. NORTHSEA / WESTERSCHELDE - Zeeland
If you wish to sail on the Northsea or Westerschelde you will need to have sufficient experience with navigating vessels on busy commercial waterways. This is for your own safety. Carrying a liferaft and North Sea kit is compulsory on these waterways.
From Delta Marina Kortgene you can make a wonderful trip to Belgium.
For experienced renters the city of Antwerp is well worth a visit. Please note that there are strong tides in the Westerschelde when you plan your cruising schedule. The Belgian coast is also an interesting alternative for those renting a sailing yacht.
